Pest Prevention Tips.

pest control traps

“Pesky Pests should never be Petted!” now while that may be a seemingly easy tongue twister, we all know the implications of harbouring pests in our home. Infestation is a serious problem. More in Urban areas where people love leading a posh lifestyle away from mud ‘n muck (But that doesn’t mean that people in the suburbs love them, at least most people don’t).
That being said, here are a few handy tips and tricks, hacks if you will, to avoid pest infestation and to lead a healthy and happy life. Follow these tips and you are golden. For most part, they are sure to help you and your children stay away from those nasty little buggers.

1. Trash is meant to be Kept Out.

No sooner than you have had a considerable amount of junk collected, throw them out. Of course in a sanitary way. Try to keep a separate dustbin outside your home where all the trash should get collected. This would make sure that rodents and insects never need to enter your house if at all. In the suburbs, people develop a routine. And this goes a long way in preventing pest infestation.

2. Keep the Trash Sealed.

That might sound weird. After all, it’s trash. What is so valuable about it, right? Well, that’s where you are partly wrong. While the trash is disposable, your cleanliness and hygiene is not. Should the lid of the Dustbin remain open, pests would get an open invitation. Think of keeping the lid tightly closed as sending a clear message, if you must.

3. Leave no Hole Unattended.

This one concerns your house. You do not need to seal yourself inside, but you do need to make sure that every entry point is monitored or sealed. If a skunk or rat or mouse get a opening, it would surely utilise the most of it. Nesting of rodents would be the least of your concerns then. It would add onto your maintenance costs. So keep vigilant!

4. Cleanliness is Next to Godliness.

This is not some ethics class. Cleanliness is really necessary. Regularly cleaning your house, its rooms and cupboards is essential in removing cobwebs, dust and whatnot. Sweeping your house, a little bit of terrace fumigation, dusting your house does not really hurt now, does it?

5. Fresh not Stale.

You need a constant supply of fresh air. It is vital for peace of mind and body and ambiance of your house. But no sooner than you open your doors and windows, in come the insects like moths and mosquitoes. To prevent that from happening, use screens. Installing screens (fine mesh) on windows and doors allows you to open them without risking the migration of insects.

6. Wood- Beautiful for both.

Woods attract termites. That’s a known fact. You cannot always go around checking every corner. That’s just not possible. And the possibility of excessive wooden decoration only helps the pests. Damp and dirty wood is ideal for termite and even fungi growth. While we accept that woods make fine decorations, we recommend you try to use as less amount of wood in your house as possible.

7. Stagnant Water- Home for Mosquitoes.

This is a no brainer. If you leave water standing for a long time, you will be creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Anopheles, Aedes and Culex may sound as exotic Greek names but they are dangerous. Surely you do not want your close ones to contact Malaria, Dengue or Encephalitis now, do you? So check inside and around your house. Make sure that there are no tubs or tyres with stagnant water. There may be mosquito larvae breeding in them!

8. Kindness is Good, but not at your Cost!

Do not shy away from using sonic devices, zappers, sprays and candles. While showing animal kindness is good, mosquitoes and pesky flies won’t show you mercy when spreading their virus. Try to keep the surroundings clean so that when it comes to rodents like rats, you don’t have to come face-to-face with any. You don’t let a cockroach breed in your house just for the sake of being against animal-cruelty. Exterminate those bugs with extreme prejudice!
